More Creative Baby Shower Ideas

More Creative Baby Shower Ideas by Nicole Munoz

Baby showers are not always the traditional all-female afternoon parties they once were. Baby showers may take place at a restaurant, at the office, or in the soon to be aunt and uncle's backyard, and may include both of the new parents as well as both of their friends. Today's baby showers feature unique themes that are tailored to best fit the parents to be and their particular needs for the new addition. You may plan a baby shower in the morning or hold a traditional afternoon gathering with light refreshments, or even a late afternoon barbecue outside if weather permits.

Multiple time moms-to-be with plenty of stuff for the new baby, but no time for herself, will love a spa baby shower. Decorate with fresh flowers in glass vases, candles, and linen tablecloths. Place a Small Fry flip frame on the table for your guest of honor to take home afterwards. Your refreshments might include fancy finger sandwiches, rich chocolates, and exotic fruits like pineapple and kiwi. Instead of shower games, consider giving one another manicures or applying relaxing facial masks. Instruct guests to bring a gift to help the new mom find time for herself, like gift certificates for take-out restaurants, day spas, or nail salons, babysitting coupons, and pampering bath products.

Another great baby shower idea for parents who already have most of the essentials is a diaper party. Send out diaper invitations and ask guests to give the mom-to-be a package of diapers in various sizes. Diapers are an essential new parents can never have too much of, especially if they are in many sizes! A diaper shaped cake will add a nice touch to the refreshment table and your guests may enjoy racing to change a baby doll diaper the fastest.

Books are another childhood essential parents can never have too many of, regardless of how many children they have. A book themed baby shower could be centered around a particular children's book, like an Alice in Wonderland tea party shower, or you may choose a general fairy tale theme with guests dressed up as their favorite fairy tale character. You may even decide to use a simple and sophisticated library or coffee shop theme for the book shower with hot tea and sconces. Encourage guests to give all sorts of books to the new parents to begin their children's library or to expand the one they have.

Many new moms have the benefit of receiving several showers from friends, relatives, coworkers, and others. If you are planning a baby shower for parents-to-be who are being honored by others as well, you may consider throwing a What's for Dinner baby shower to help the new mom and dad out with dinner while they spend time with their new little one. Ask guests to bring an already cooked, frozen meal that can be reheated during those tiring first few weeks.
